OpenCloud is being spearheaded by the Open Networking Lab (ON.Lab). ON.Lab is a non-profit corporation with the express mission of bringing innovation and openness to cloud and Internet infrastructure. It has a track record of promoting open platforms and tools to spur innovation in Software-Defined Networking, and it has done this by collaborating closely with both academic researchers and a broad cross-section of industry.
The PlanetLab Consortium brings over a decade of experience designing, implementing, deploying, and operating wide-area virtualized infrastructure on behalf of the research community. Together the PlanetLab and ON.Lab teams bring unparalleled expertise with both the technology (virtualized clusters, SDN, NFV), and the community (academic researchers and industry decision makers).
Internet2 is an important strategic partner of OpenCloud, bringing nearly 20 years of experience empowering University researchers with cutting-edge networking technology. Internet2 is both hosting and operating network and server infrastructure in support of OpenCloud. Having the Internet2 national backbone as part of the underlying infrastructure makes OpenCloud a realistic environment for showcasing next generation cloud, SDN, and NFV technology.
